Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy

The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy ®

The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy ® are centered around the ancient Mayan techniques, which re-position organs that have dropped and restricted the flow of blood, lymph, nerve and chi energy.

Practiced for centuries in Belize, this gentle uterine correction is an external, non-invasive technique that guides the uterus into its correct position through massage of the pelvic area. This technique aims to relieve obstruction to the flow of Qi, blood and lymph. The Arvigo ®Techniques correct the position of the uterus, hips and sacrum and release muscular spasms in the abdomen and pelvis, improving the circulation of blood, lymph and Qi (bioenergy), optimizing nerve impulses. Emotional armoring is released and the Chakras (energy centers) become balanced. An overall sense of well being, harmony and vitality results.

Please read my experience with this work on the home page called One Woman’s Healing Journey.

Based on over thirty years of training and experience in massage, naprapathy, herbology, and spiritual healing, Dr. Rosita Arvigo developed these techniques which now bear her name. This modality incorporates a holistic approach to health care which includes massage, anatomy and physiology, herbology, nutrition, and emotional and spiritual healing. Dr. Arvigo believes that with any natural healing technique, these areas must be simultaneously addressed to promote optimal health. As with any other natural healing, the Arvigo ® Techniques seek to restore the body to it’s natural balance.

Slide012Dr. Arvigo learned these techniques from her mentor, Don Elijio Panti, the great Maya Shaman of Belize, Central America with whom she apprenticed for ten years. Don Elijio believed that a woman’s center is her uterus. “If a woman’s uterus is out of balance, so is she,” he would say.

Midwives and healers of Central America agree that most female troubles are caused by the wandering womb. Don Elijio passed away in 1996 at the age of 103. Rosita also studied with Hortence Robinson, an herbal midwife of Belize, who recently crossed in 2010, who began delivering babies at the tender age of 13.

The Maya Abdominal Massage was traditionally practiced at the Ancient Maya Temple of Ix Chel in Cozumel.
Who is Ix Chel?

ixchel
Ixchel is the ancient Maya goddess of fertility & healing. Ix means goddess of the feminine. Chel means rainbow or light. In other words, she is the: Lady of the Rainbow, Goddess of the Rainbow and Lady of Sacred Light. She is always associated with bodies of water, lakes, streams, rivers and creeks. Anywhere you would be likely to see a rainbow.

She is often pictured wearing a skirt and crossbones. She carries an upside-down vessel in her hands which represents the nourishing gift of water, our most essential life giving element. She wears a serpent on her head . The snake, has always been associated with medicine or healing powers. As the Goddess of Medicine the snake also symbolizes intuitive forces.
She is the goddess of fertility, motherhood , the moon and menstrual cycle. She is mother of all. She holds a rabbit in her hand as a symbol of fertility while sitting in the crescent moon. As the goddess of fertility and childbirth she is responsible for the formation of the baby in the womb and determines the sex of the child. She is the goddess of motherhood, the moon and menstrual cycle.
As the Crone, she is the Maya goddess of medicine and the moon. She is in charge of medicinal plants, healing and the moon phases. She carries a lot of spiritual knowledge. She holds a clay pot of rainwater and herbs. When she is in a good mood she blesses the earth with rain and when she is in a bad mood she sends floods and hurricanes.
You can visit the temple of Ix Chel in Cozumel, it is now called San Gervasio.

What causes a displaced uterus?
A displaced, tipped or prolapsed uterus may result from an accident, chronic constipation, chronic muscle spasms of the lower back and sacrum, wearing high heels, repeated pregnancies close together, difficult labor, rape and sexual abuse.

There are at least 36 symptoms of a displaced uterus:
Bladder or Yeast Infections, Constipation
Endometriosis, Fibroids
Irregular or Painful Menstruation
Miscarriages, Difficult Pregnancies
Painful Ovulation, Painful Intercourse
PMS, Peri-menopausal Discomfort
Vaginal Dryness, Vaginal Infections
This misalignment puts pressure on organs, blood vessels, nerves, and ligaments, impeding the circulation of blood, lymph, Qi and the transmission of nerve impulses needed for proper functioning.

The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy correct the position of the uterus, hips and sacrum and release muscular spasms in the abdomen and pelvis. This improves the circulation of blood, lymph and Qi (bioenergy), optimizing nerve impulses. Emotional armoring is released and the Chakras (energy centers) become balanced. An overall sense of well being, harmony and vitality results.
Benefits for Women
Normally the uterus leans slightly over the bladder in the center of the pelvis, about one and a half inches above the pubic bone. It is held in this position by muscles, the vaginal wall and ligaments that attach it to the back, front, and sides of the pelvis. Uterine ligaments are made to stretch to accommodate a growing fetus inside and to move freely when the bladder or bowel is full. The ligaments and muscles can weaken and loosen, causing the uterus to fall downward, forward, backward or to either side.
A uterus in any of these positions is called tilted or prolapsed. Modern medicine has little or nothing to offer women with this problem. Options may include using the birth control pill, muscle relaxants, or surgery and women are generally told, “your uterus is tipped, but that is normal and don’t worry about it.” Yet women have a laundry list of physical and emotional symptoms that can be addressed and prevented with these simple, noninvasive massage techniques.
When reproductive organs shift, they can constrict normal flow of blood and lymph, and disrupt nerve connections. Just a few extra ounces sitting on blood and lymph vessels can cause havoc throughout the different systems in the body. By shifting the uterus back into place, homeostasis, or the natural balance of the body, is restored in the pelvic area and the surrounding organs. Toxins are flushed and nutrients that help to tone tissue and balance hormones are restored to normal order. This is essential for healthy pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
Old adhesions (internal scar tissue) from invasive treatments to the pelvic and abdominal area, including fibroid tumors, endometriosis, and cesarean delivery are diminished when addressed by uterine massage. In addition, digestion, urinary and bladder problems can be helped.

Benefits for Men
Men benefit greatly from the Arvigo Techniques as well. By ensuring a full blood supply to the prostate, the abdominal massage helps to prevent swelling and inflammation. Men report that they can feel a distinct difference in blood flow after a treatment. Not only does the massage relieve prostate swelling, but it helps alleviate varicose veins, premature ejaculation, some impotency problems and the need to urinate frequently.

Digestive and Emotional Benefits for Men and Women
Individuals with digestive disorders benefit greatly from Maya Abdominal Therapy. Many of our common disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Indigestion, Constipation, and heartburn are treated with antacids, muscle relaxants, and a variety of other medications. These treatments address symptoms, not the causes. By using the techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy, the upper abdomen is also given a deep, thorough massage to loosen the tight muscles around the stomach and the arteries that feed the digestive and eliminative organs with their vital blood supply. The diaphragm is gently massaged allowing relaxation of tight musculature.

Preparing for a session
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage are not recommended a few days before the period, during the period and up to 3 days afterwards, to prevent possible back-flow of endometrial tissue and the area may be more tender.
If you are trying to get pregnant, the best days to receive a session are the first two weeks following the period, before ovulation time.
If you are no longer menstruating anytime is fine. Women find tremendous relief from hot flashes and moodiness by doing the massage.

What to expect in a session:

Comprehensive review of personal history & health care needs.
Instruction in self-care techniques that individuals can apply at home to enhance the benefit of treatment provided by a qualified practitioner.
Abdominal massage focused on aligning pelvic and abdominal organs.
Additional techniques to complement the Arvigo ® Techniques according to individual need; Energy Healing, Cranial-Sacral Therapy, Amma Therapy, Spiritual Healing and Myofascial release and Trigger Point therapy.
Consultation is focused on lifestyle changes.
Herbal remedies and other natural products are made available that may enhance the effect of the treatment and may be indicated based on the lifestyle consultation.
Follow up care depends on your goals and results. We work together to ensure your individual health care needs either through these techniques or through referrals to other qualified healthcare providers.
