How to Make and Use the Faja
The faja (fa-ha) is a cloth band worn by Central American women to support their uterus. The following are general directions to make and wear the faja (fa-ha) either for yourself or clients.
Plain cotton muslin cloth works best. Cut a strip about 12 inches wide and 3-4 yards long that is sufficient to wrap around the pelvis with enough left over to tie a knot
or tuck in the ends. Adjust the length of the faja as needed to meet the needs of the body. A piece of an old cotton sheet or shawl works well too.
Place the faja on a flat surface. Lie down on the cloth with your low back in the center of the cloth. You will have the 2 long sides on either side of your body. Wrap the cloth firmly around your abdomen, wrapping it around the pelvis firmly and securely. Give a twist in the back and bring the two ends around to the front to tie in a lateral or medial position that willl best support the uterus. The faja is worn all day, under the underwear.
Check to ensure the faja is not too tight. If your legs tingle, feel numb, or turn bluish, loosen the knot to allow circulation to and from the extremities.
Wearing a faja supports the uterus to allow the body time to repair uterine ligaments and increase circulation and nerve supply to the organs and surrounding tissues. This takes anywhere from 24 hour to 30 days.
When wearing the faja, avoid wearing high heel shoes, running, high impact exercise classes, lifting heavy objects, horseback riding, or other strenuous activity as it causes the ligaments to over stretch and is counterproductive to healing.
Be patient! The massage and faja ALWAYS help. Some clients choose to wear the faja for a day or two before their menses begins in order to alleviate that feeling of heaviness.
Others just wear it because they like the way it makes them feel. IMPORTANT: Do not wear the faja at night or during menses!
Healing with Castor Oil Packs
Castor oil is derived from the bean of the Ricinus communis or Palma Christi plant (palm of christ). The Palma Christi has been used therapeutically for centuries in folk medicine of ancient India, China, Persia, Africa, Greece, Rome, and the Americas. It has large, beautiful palmate leaves hence the name, Palma Christi.
Edgar Cayce, a medical intuitive known as the “sleeping prophet”, introduced castor oil packs for the treatment of many conditions.
Some of the numerous uses of castor oil include the treatment of breast cysts, fibroids, ovarian cysts, congestion of abdominal organs, skin conditions, small benign cysts, and adhesions from surgery. Wherever there is congestion, scar tissue, decreased blood flow and need for healing, castor oil can be an effective treatment option.
How does castor oil work?
Research has shown castor oil has a unique chemical profile rich in ricinoleic acid which is found only in the castor bean from which the oil is extracted. Double blind studies conducted by the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc. demonstrated an increase in lymphocyte production and the level of activity of T-cell lymphocytes in the group that used castor oil packs. T-cell lymphocytes originate from bone marrow and the thymus gland and identify and kill invaders such as virus, bacteria, and fungi.
In addition to strengthening the immune system, castor oil appears to have a balancing effect on the autonomic nervous system, increasing liver activity and improving digestion. Tumors, fibroids and cysts can be shrunken and eliminated by re-absorption.
What is a castor oil pack?
The standard pack recommended by Edgar Cayce consists of several layers of white wool flannel, (holds heat better), but cotton flannel is also used with excellent results. Castor oil is soaked on the material and applied to the area in need of healing.
How is a castor oil pack used?
Warm the castor oil to skin temperature in a non-metallic pot. Soak the flannel in the oil to make it well saturated but not dripping. Place the pack over the area to be treated, and cover the pack with plastic food wrap. Place a heat source, a heating pack or hot water bottle, on top of the pack to maintain consistent warmth throughout the treatment. Secure this in place with a heavy towel.
While the pack is working, quietly meditate to connect the mind and body healing energies. This assists the spiritual essence of the plant to assist in your healing. Often people find the thoughts that occur in this meditative state are as important as the properties of the oil to their healing process. Journal your thoughts, feelings, or images that may occur during this treatment.
Adjust the heat setting to your comfort, but do not fall asleep while using the heating pad!! Continue treatment for one hour. An alternative to using the pack without a heat source; secure pack with a towel wrapped around your body, secure with pins, leave in place overnight.
How do I prevent staining from the oil?
To protect bedding or clothing from staining, plastic sheets from dry cleaning bags, old plastic table cloths, old shower curtains, old heavy bath towels, etc. are typically effective. Baking soda may be used during laundering to remove some of the stains on fabric.
How are the packs maintained?
To re-use a pack for multiple treatments, just re-saturate with oil. Packs can be stored in a plastic bag or glass jar for six months to a year as long as it does not become rancid or soiled. Packs should not be shared with other persons.
How often do I use the packs as a treatment?
A typical regimen for non-acute conditions is three times a week, every other night for three weeks with the fourth week off. Repeat this for two more cycles, take a week off, and then continue once a week, or until symptoms subside.
For acute conditions, use for 30 minutes nightly for five nights, take two nights off, then repeat the cycle for two weeks or until the condition is resolved.
Are there any contraindications to usage?
Do not use the packs during times of heavy bleeding, gaseous stomach, intestinal conditions, or during pregnancy.
On rare occasion a rash may occur at the site. This is a normal occurrence of the body’s way to eliminate toxins. Cleanse the area with a solution of 1 TBL baking soda to one cup of warm water.

HERBAL VAGINAL STEAM
Vaginal steam baths, or“Bajos” (ba-hoes), as they are known in Spanish, are used to assist in the cleansing of the uterus in conjunction with the Arvigo Therapy for the treatment of numerous female symptoms.
PLANTS: The most commonly used are marigold, oregano, basil, rosemary, motherwort, St. John’s wort, chamomile, damiana, red clover, dandelion, yellow dock, squaw vine, horsetail, Mexican wormseed (epazote).
DIRECTIONS: Collect plants using prayer and a clear intention of healing. If using fresh plant; about 1 quart, if using dry; about a cup.
In a large pot containing about a gallon of water, place the above plants. Crush the herbs into the water thanking them for helping with your healing.
Offer prayers nine times. These prayers can be whatever Spirit offers you guidance; Goddess, Jesus, Christ, God, Mother Earth, Father in Heaven, etc.) It is the Prayer, faith and the Intention that is important.
Bring this to a soft boil for 5 minutes; then steep for 10 minutes with the lid on. With the pot under a slatted chair, lawn chair, etc., sit on the chair without underwear.
Wear socks to keep your feet warm, draping fully with a blanket around your waist to the floor. Be careful not to allow any draft underneath you. Be sure you are enclosed by the blankets from the waist down, and something warm from the waist up.
Sitting quietly over your pot of herbal steam for 20 minutes, meditate, read, enjoy and find pleasure in the herbal healing. The heat should feel warming and pleasant. If it is too warm, remove the pot for a few minutes.
After the vaginal steam bath, wrap yourself in the blanket allowing a time of rest and meditation for about 20 minutes or so. Be careful not to allow cool drafts and temperature changes.
Depending upon the condition you are treating, vaginal steam baths are done prior to menses or just after. Expect changes in your vaginal discharge and menstruation; these are normal cleansing reactions.
Inform your practitioner if you have any unusual discharge or respons
Happy Earth Day!
Today is a special day that we celebrate the being that feeds us, nurtures us, and supports us. Many think the Earth is a big resource that can be mined, used and consumed to no end. For ancient cultures, this was not true. They looked at the Earth like their mother, one who nourishes and supports with a consciousness.
Mother Earth goes by the following names:
Earth Mother, counterpart of the Sky Father
Mother Nature, a common metaphorical expression for the Earth and its biosphere as the giver and sustainer of life
Mother Earth (deity), a Slavic deity
Gaia (mythology), the Greek goddess personifying the earth
Terra (mythology), the Roman goddess personifying the earth or land
Parvati, the Hindu goddess personifying the earth or land
Mother goddess, the Earth Mother
Pachamama, a pan-Andean concept and deity
It is not enough to conserve, be mindful of our waste and reuse and recycle. We need to be conscious that we are a part of this planet and she feeds us physically, emotionally and spiritually. We are nurtured in ways we do not yet understand, yet the ancient ones knew.
On this special day maybe you can take some time to get to know her as you would a new friend. Sit by a tree or ground, not concrete, soil… Let her speak to you. What are the first impressions you get from your first meeting? This may feel weird or uncomfortable at first or it may feel comforting and nurturing.
As a child my favorite place to be was up in a tree. I felt so nurtured and comforted there. This is also another option, climb a tree.
If you are in a place where no nature is around you can connect with Mother Earth through a meditation.
Journey to meet Mother Earth:
Take some nice deep cleansing breaths
Visualize a beautiful meadow, walk along the meadow, notice the flowers in the meadow and if there are any trees or bushes,
As you walk to the edge of the meadow, you will see a forest, go into the forest, is it thick, is it sparse, what kind of trees are in the forest,
Now look to the right and you will see a cave, feel the coolness of the cave,
Walk through the cave and you will notice it begins to slope
At the back of the cave you will notice a stream, lay down in the stream and let it take you deep into the bowels of the earth, allow this stream to take you deep into the heart of the mother, mother earth.
When you have arrived you will notice a glistening cave filled with crystals of all sizes and shapes.
Walk to the center and call in the earth mother, what does she look like, what does her energy feel like,
Embrace her and thank her for feeding and taking care of you,
Ask her if she has a message for you.
Give her an offering from your heart
Ask her if she has a gift for you.
Thank her, and allow her love and blessings to fill you fully.
Go to the end of the cave and you will once again find the stream that will take you back to the first cave.
Walk through the cave, thanking the cave, through the forest and once again back to the meadow.
Here in Greece, spring officially begins today. In many parts of the world, I am sure it looks nothing like spring outside your window but we can feel it in the air…and in the warmth of the sun shining.

Do you feel like starting new things, buying new clothes, just being outdoors more? This is the time for new beginning, like a quickening before giving birth to new things. Spring in Greek is Aniksi, which mean opening. It is not only an opening of flowers and bursting pf plants through the soil and possibly snow, but also an opening of ideas of viewpoints. The new moon coming up this month is probably one of the best for planting new ideas, a new business or new relationship. so they can come into fruition. So how do we go about this…
Take a piece of paper and write down what you want in your life, as if it has already happened. One example, I have a thriving practice that now only helps my clients but gives me great joy and suppotrs me and my family. Write something about every aspect of your life, health, family, social, love, career, etc.
On the day of the new moon, March 20, which also happens to be an eclipse, make a copy and put it away so you can look back on it the fall, to see what has come to fruition. Plant the original paper with a seed into the ground. There may be areas that are still frozen so do the best you can. A planter doesn’t work, it must be into the earth so it can take root and be nurtured by mother earth.
As you plant it, thank Mother earth for nourishing this seed you are planting. When you are done, walk away and let it go. Also, don’t be tempted to look at your copy, let that go too, till next fall. Good luck with all your new endeavors!

What if one day you woke up and decided that you were tired of feeling tired and that you had enough of everything? Enough of stress and anxiety, enough of anger and resentment, enough of struggle, lack, pain and poverty, enough of tears, heartbreaks, self destructive thoughts, behaviors and relationships and enough of all that is negative and toxic? What if you decided that you wanted to change yourself and your life but didn’t know where exactly to start, what then?
There are many things you can do to begin rebuilding your life and make it ridiculously amazing and today I will share with you 12 things that are meant to help you do just that. Are you ready? Let’s begin:
1. Make a commitment to yourself
Make a commitment to myself,
To spend so much time improving myself and my life that I have no time for worry, judgement, criticism, whining and complaining;
To forgive, release and let go of my attachment to any past struggles and allow every challenge life sends my way to make me better not bitter.
Starting now, I make a commitment to let go of what’s behind me and start appreciating what’s in front of me;
To let go of all the pointless drama, all the toxic relationships, thoughts and behaviors that are present in my life and to constantly shift my focus from the bad on to the good;
To make room in my heart for love, happiness, peace and tranquility and to create my life from a place of infinite choices and possibilities – the present moment, and no longer from a place of limitations – the past.
I commit to staying true to myself at all times and to never betray myself just so I can please other people.
I commit myself to give up on toxic thought, behaviors and relationships but never on myself and my dreams.
Starting now and starting today, I will begin rebuilding my life and to make it ridiculously amazing.
Once you truly commit to rebuilding your life and making it ridiculously amazing, nothing and no one will be able to stand in your way.
2. Forgive, release and let go of past hurts and resentments
Fill your heart with love. Forgive, release and let go. Not necessary because those who mistreated you deserve it, but because you do. Let forgiveness liberate you from your past. Allow it to take away all the resentment you kept in heart for all this time and allow yourself to fill in that empty space with love, inner peace and compassion.
If others mistreated you in the past it doesn’t mean you have to continue their work. Look how beautiful Mark Twain talks about this: “Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.”
Release and let go of all the negativity from your life. Start small and trust that as you work on letting go of all the extra baggage that is weighting you down, you will begin to feel lighter and you will gain a lot more clarity over your life. You will feel happier and more at peace with yourself and the world around you.
3. Embrace with grace all that you face
Shift your focus from the bad on to the good, from the pain on to the gain, from resentment on to the forgiveness, gratitude and appreciation. Learn to embrace with grace all that you face.
Appreciate everything life sends your way, whether good or bad and know that “Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” ~ Melody Beattie
4. Visualize your achievements and create your destiny
Ask yourself the same question I asked myself a few years ago when I decided to let go of my attachment to my past and begin rebuild my whole life: “If there were no limits to what I can do, be and have, how would my life look like?”
Let your imagination run wild. Dare to dream big. Don’t settle for less than you are worth.
The richer your imagination, the more beautiful your life will be.

See in your mind’s eye the life you would love to live, the person you would love to become and the relationships you would want to have. Live your life from the end and act as if all of the things you need and desire are already present in your life. Feel the feelings that come from having all those wonderful things happen to you and allow those feelings to be with you at all times.
5. Dreams won’t work unless you do
Act upon your heart’s desire. Do the things you need to do in order to get where you want to get. Read the books you need to read, contact the people you need to contact, build the skills you need to build.
Find a mentor. Dare to ask questions. Do whatever it takes to move yourself closer to making your dreams come true.
Trust that with every step you take, your life situation will improve and you will become even more happier than you already are.
6. Take one step at a time
Because of the many years of past conditioning and the intense training you have in holding on to toxic thoughts, behaviors and unhealthy relationships, giving up on all that is toxic in your life won’t be easy and it won’t happen overnight. Chances are that you won’t see major improvements in your life immediately, and that’s okay. Be patient and gentle with yourself while working on rebuilding your life and remember to enjoy the journey.

Take one step at a time and keep in mind that a journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step.
7. Develop a deep trust in life
You have to have faith. You have to have trust… Trust in yourself, trust in the people you interact with and trust in life.
Put your fears aside. Allow yourself to be vulnerable. Develop a deep trust in the wisdom of life. “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” ~ Matthew 17:20
8. Give yourself permission to “fail”
Give yourself permission to “fail” and make “mistakes”.
Trust me when I tell you that in every “mistake” there is a lesson to learn, lesson that will be very beneficial to you as you continue walking on your life’s chosen path.

9. Be good to yourself
Love yourself and be good to yourself because if you do, the world around you will start mirroring your behavior. Take good care of your mind, body, heart and soul. Exercise, drink plenty of water, eat healthy and delicious food.
Nurture good thoughts. Act in compassionate and loving ways, towards yourself and the world around you. Spend time alone, spending at least 5 to 10 minutes per day in silence would make you help make you feel refreshed, rejuvenated and renewed.
Go outside. Spend some time in nature. Look at the plants, the sky, the stars, the moon and the trees. Celebrate the miracle of life.

Way too many people are living a life that is not theirs to live. They live their lives according to what others think is best for them, they live their lives according to what their parents think is best for them, to what their friends, their enemies and their teachers, their government and the media think is best for them. They ignore their inner voice, that inner calling. They are so busy with pleasing everybody, with living up to other people’s expectations, that they lose control over their lives. They forget what makes them happy, what they want, what they need….and eventually they forget about themselves.
Never get your sense of worth from outside yourself. Your worth comes from inside yourself and not from forces outside yourself – people, events, material possessions. Don’t ever let other people tell you how much you’re worth, decide for yourself. It’s called self worth not others worth.
You have one life – this one right now – you must live it, own it, and especially don’t let other people’s opinions distract you from your path.
11. Discipline your mind to stay present in the NOW
Learn to be present and engaged in the present moment. Be happy with what you have, what you know and who you are right now. Don’t allow your mind to trick you into thinking that you won’t be happy until you get where you want to get.
Appreciate what’s in front of you. If you learn how to be present and engaged in the NOW, you will live a very happy and content life and no matter how many challenges life will send your way, you will become a better not bitter person.

12. Surround yourself with loving and supportive people
Surround yourself with positive, cheerful, supportive and loving people. People who can lift you up when you are feeling down; people who will turn on the light for you when you are in the dark; people who can see you for what you truly are and who you can truly become. Take the advice of Mark Twain and “Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.”
You need positive and loving friends who will support you in your new way of life…
Commit yourself to making the best of everything life sends your way. Be soft and flexible. Go with the flow of life and no longer against it.
Enjoy the ride and no matter what happens to you and no matter how many challenges and difficult people life might send your way, know that they are all there to help you grow and evolve into the beautiful being you so much want and deserve to be.
You only have one life to live. Make it a memorable one.
Give up on all the toxicity present in your life but never on yourself and your dreams, ok?
